STAAR REVIEW GAME CARDS! 8th Grade Math

A fun review for students before the STAAR test, to refresh topics they haven't seen in a while and instill confidence in what they know! Not meant to stump them, but to encourage their knowledge. This would be great to play on Fridays leading up to the test!

Topics covered in these cards include:

Sets of numbers, Volume, Surface Area, Slope & y-intercept, Solving Equations, Scientific Notation, Scatter Plots, Pythagorean Theorem, Mean Absolute Deviation, and Financial Literacy

Pair these with the included game boards for a quick and easy review before the STAAR test!

The questions are geared toward a quick review, and are a level that will allow them to be successful in a game-setting, as well as make them feel confident going into the STAAR test. They should be able to solve each question within 3 minutes. This will allow them to get through most of the questions in one class period.

How to use game cards successfully
Students need: Scrap paper, pencil, game piece, game board, game cards, key

• Put students in groups of 4
• Give students a game board to use, or allow them to choose their favorite
• Give each group a set of game cards AND A KEY
• Have each student get out a piece of paper to write out any work that will help them solve the problems. They can turn this in for credit!

3 methods
1. Have all 4 students in the group flip a card and solve it independently, then move their game piece if they get it correct
2. Have students work in pairs and take turns solving problems
3. Have students solve each question one at a time, with the option of asking for help from their group
